Bimetal thermometer is a kind of on-site detection industrial instrument suitable for measuring medium and low temperature, can be used to directly measure the temperature of gas, liquid and steam. The bimetal thermometer with live contact can automatically send a control signal to cut off the power supply or give an alarm when the working temperature exceeds a given value.
The bimetal thermometer has the advantages of no mercury hazard, easy reading, sturdiness and vibration resistance, and can replace industrial glass mercury thermometers and is widely used in industry and scientific research departments.
Bimetal thermometers are divided into three types: ordinary type, outdoor type, and anti-corrosion type. The ordinary shell is electroplated with iron sheet, and the protective tube is made of stainless steel, which is suitable for indoor use in general occasions. The outdoor shell is made of aluminum gold, and the protective tube and connecting column are all made of stainless steel, with ideal sealing performance. It is suitable for applications indoor and outdoor, and the places with general corrosion-resistance requirements. The anti-corrosion shell adopts entirely stainless steel protective tube. The connecting column can be made of molybdenum titanium, and the connecting part is provided with sealant, suitable for the measurement of most corrosive media and gases.
II. Structure principle
The temperature sensing element of bimetal thermometer adopts a multi-turn straight thread-shaped bimetallic sheet, with one end fixed, the other end (free end) connecting to the mandrel, and the pointer of the axial thermometer is directly mounted on the mandrel. The pointer of radial structure thermometer is connected with the mandrel through a corner spring. When the temperature changes, the free end of temperature sensing element rotates, and the pointer is driven by the mandrel to indicate the change in the temperature of measured medium on the dial.
Electric contact thermometer has the pointer equipped with a movable contact, and the fixed contact allows the pointer contact rotate with temperature changes. When the temperature reaches the set value, the contact closes and sends a signal to achieve the purpose of automatic control and alarm.
III. Characteristics of bimetal thermometer
The bimetallic thermometers have the advantages such as fast response, small size, ideal linearity, and stability.
The bimetal thermometer is regularly maintained and repaired under normal use, normally every six months. To affect the reliability of the contact, the electric contact thermometer is not suitable for applications under strong vibration.
The bimetal thermometer is not suitable for measuring the temperature of the medium in the open container, and the charged contact thermometer is not suitable for the control circuit where the work shock is large.
In the storage, use, installation and transportation of the bimetal thermometer, care should be taken to avoid collision with the protective tube. It is not allowed to bend or deform the protective tub, or use the meter as a wrench.
The length of the bimetal thermometer protection tube immersed in the measured medium must be greater than that of the temperature sensing element, normally greater than 98mm, and the immersion length is greater than 152mm in the range of 0-50℃, which can ensure the measurement accuracy.

In order to meet the needs of actual production, bimetal thermometers have different installation and fixation forms: flexible external threaded pipe joints, flexible internal threaded pipe joints, fixed threaded joints, ferrule threaded joints, ferrule flange joints and fixed flanges.
